Boston — Thursday night marks the Bruins’ return home following a four-game road trip. However, head coach Jim Montgomery wasn’t thinking about hockey on Thursday morning.
Montgomery’s thoughts and prayers were with the people of Maine and the victims of Wednesday night’s terrible shooting in Lewiston.
Montgomery opened his Thursday morning press conference by saying, “I want to start out by recognizing the horrific and tragic event that happened in Lewiston, Maine yesterday.” “The Boston Bruins extend their sympathies and sympathy to the families and victims of this tragic event.
Montgomery was a standout player at the University of Maine during his collegiate days and was captain when the Black Bears won a national championship in 1993. “We are heartbroken by the tragic and horrifying events in Lewiston,” the Bruins posted on X Thursday morning. “Maine is a special part of the Bruins family and our hearts are with those affected by this tragedy.” Montgomery continued, “I personally spent four wonderful years at the University of Maine and I know how great the culture in that state and I know how great the people are. My heartfelt sympathies to everybody that’s affected.”
The Boston Bruins Foundation declared that it has established a fund and promised to donate at least $100,000 to Lewiston victims. Aside from that, players from the Bruins and the opposing Anaheim Ducks (who play on Thursday night) will be bidding off player-signed, Maine-themed sticks that have been wrapped in blue tape.
Regarding the incident in Lewiston, messages were also placed on X by the Boston Celtics, owner Robert Kraft, and the New England Patriots.
“Everyone in New England is in shock and grief over the terrible act of violence that occurred in Lewiston, Maine last night. In a statement, Kraft said, “My heart goes out to the victims’ families, friends, and loved ones, who are dealing with unimaginable pain and loss.” “Let us remember the victims, honor their lives, and continue to fight hate and violence in order to prevent these horrific tragedies.”
