Ian Evatt could be down to just 16 first-team players for Saturday’s trip to Carlisle United after Randell Williams and Kyle Dempsey sustained injuries, and George Thomason received his 10th league yellow card of the season, resulting in a two-game ban.
Carlos Mendes Gomes is returning from the Ivory Coast, where he represented Guinea Bissau at the AFCON, and is set to arrive on Thursday.
Evatt is hoping Dempsey recovers from a muscular injury sustained in the final few minutes of Tuesday night’s game – but with Williams now out for three or four weeks and Thomason missing Carlisle and the home fixture against Barnsley, the pressure is on to find fresh recruits.
“It isn’t ideal,” the manager explained of his injury predicament. “It’s Randell’s hamstring; we don’t think it’s a terrible one, but it’s important enough to cause him to miss the same as Will (Forrester).Ian Evatt could be down to just 16 first team players for the trip to Carlisle United on Saturday, after Randell Williams and Kyle Dempsey picked up injuries and George Thomason received his tenth league yellow card.
“Demps is more neuronal; we’re encouraged. We will have to watch how it settles and then make a call on it.
“Good news, Carlos is on his way. Look, we’re going to have to conduct some business, and we will do so.”
Evatt has also revealed that Gethin Jones has not experienced any problems while on international duty with Australia, despite being dropped out of the squad for their final group game against Uzbekistan.
The Socceroos drew 1-1 and will face Palestine or Indonesia in the last stage on Saturday.
