The news on Wednesday night that five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott has switched his commitment from Ohio State to the Hurricanes is a major boost for Miami’s 2024 recruiting class. What you should know is as follows:

According to 247Sports Composite, Scott, a defensive lineman at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago, is ranked No. 3 in the country and No. 12 overall.
On July 2, he made his Ohio State commitment, choosing the Buckeyes over Miami, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Georgia at the time.

Mario Cristobal’s value as a head coach is evident when he flips a five-star defensive tackle from a programme such as Ohio State. This summer, the Hurricanes prioritised acquiring a dominant man to play in the middle of their defence, but they failed to land a few big targets. The Hurricanes now have six recruits ranked in the top 100 and a top-five class.

Marquise Lightfoot, a four-star recruit from Chicago’s Kenwood Academy (ranked No. 58 nationally), will offer support up front. Miami’s class has seven defensive line commitments, and there may be more coming. — Beat writer for Miami Manny Navarro

For Ohio State, this is the greatest blow of all time. It lost its best prospect at the defensive line, one of the two positions it couldn’t lose an elite prospect at. Scott was a vital component of a defensive recruiting class meant to alleviate some of the trench issues. Together with Eddrick Houston, he was one of the two five-star players on the defensive line. Ohio State is having more difficulty attracting top players for the offensive and defensive lines as a result of Scott’s disengagement.

The Buckeyes still have Houston on board, but they were unable to sign five-star edge rusher Dylan Stewart after it missed in the previous cycle. Ohio State must now exert every effort possible.

The Transfer Portal will have a significant effect on the Miami Hurricanes football roster in 2024. For instance, as of this writing on November 27, 2023, there are four Canes in the Transfer Portal today alone.

News regarding players joining and leaving the University of Miami football programme will be updated on this page via the Transfer Portal. Make a note of this page and return often!
