East Rutherford, N.J. With Sunday’s 27-10 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Giants’ disappointing 2023 season came to a close. The hard work begins now for general manager Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll, as they attempt to get their programme back on track after a significant setback in Year 2.

Schoen and Daboll face a big to-do list this offseason, beginning with some critical coaching staff decisions. Here’s a rundown of the most important questions to answer following a 6-11 season:

On November 26, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer said that Daboll’s relationship with defensive coordinator Wink Martindale was in such a “bad place” that a break was expected. The tension originates from a personality clash between the explosive Daboll and the composed Martindale. The stress rose as the losses piled up this season.

Martindale’s public comments have done little to dispel the notion of a strained relationship, and there has been constant speculation from insiders within the organisation and around the league that he wants out. Martindale aspires to be a head coach, but the 60-year-old only received one interview during last year’s hiring process.

Martindale is under contract, therefore he cannot simply depart for another defensive coordinator position. The question is whether Daboll intends to try to make the relationship work or if he is ready to move on.
