According to a report from On3’s Pete Nakos, the Tennessee Vols have a “slight edge” over other teams for a crucial transfer offensive lineman.

Zalance Heard, an offensive tackle transfer from LSU, is considering Oklahoma and Tennessee, according to Nakos on Tuesday. Additionally, Nakos believes that Tennessee’s “top-tier NIL” programme gives the Vols a “slight edge” over Heard.

Gerald Mincey, who began for the Vols in 2022 and 2023 at left tackle and right tackle, transferred to Kentucky earlier this month, leaving the team without an offensive tackle.

From On3: LSU offensive lineman Zalance Heard, the top domino still standing, had a low-key weekend. He wasn’t travelling and making visits. In the 2023 cycle, the former top-25 prospect is between Oklahoma and Tennessee. Ole Miss withdrew its attempt to participate in the competition. Heard has the choice to play in the SEC with the Sooners and Tennessee, but the Volunteers have the advantage due to their elite NIL programme.

Austin Price of VolQuest stated that he continues to believe the Vols are in a strong position for Heard during an appearance on 104.5 The Zone’s “Ramon, Kayla, and Will” on Tuesday morning.

“School starts next Tuesday so the rubber’s got to meet the road at some point,” stated Price. “I believe we’re making progress. And with Lance Heard, I still feel incredibly optimistic about Tennessee’s current state. However, he hasn’t formally made any announcements regarding Tennessee yet.”

Heard’s recruitment seems promising for the Vols, but until he makes an official announcement, there will be some uncertainty in East Tennessee regarding his fall football destination.
