Max Verstappen won the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday, shattering yet another incredible Formula One record in the process.

The three-time world champion cruised to yet another victory at Interlagos after a wild beginning to the race.

With 17 victories out of 20 races completed so far this season, he will have a minimum win percentage of little over 77% regardless of what happens in the next two races of the season.

This surpasses the record of the best win percentage for a Formula One season, which was held by Alberto Ascari from 1952 to 1975 and stood at 75%.

That year, the Italian won six of the eight races and took home the second of his two world titles. At the time, the racing calendar had nearly tripled, so breaking that record seemed unattainable for even the best drivers. However, Verstappen’s flawless driving and the dominance of the Red Bull RB19 have changed that, and the 26-year-old said after the race that the starts were crucial.

After that, tire management dominated the entire race. We performed well on all tires, but in particular, I believe that during the middle stint, we had a decent opportunity to open up a small gap.

“It all looked pretty good, but you had to constantly correct the car because of the high deg around here. Fortunately, everything went well today.”
