Each National Football League franchise has its own trends they follow in the NFL Draft. Some of them are obvious and others hit you like a ton of bricks. For the Seattle Seahawks, taking a look at their history in the NFL Draft brings up some interesting data.
Fantasy Pros’ Sam Hoppen did some research taking a look at how long it had been since a franchise had drafted a position in the first two rounds of the draft. Believe it or not, the Seahawks haven’t taken a quarterback in the top two rounds since they drafted Rick Mirer in 1993.
It’s pretty remarkable that the Seahawks haven’t taken a quarterback in the first two rounds of the draft in the 21st century. It’s so remarkable that only one franchise hasn’t taken one in longer. That is the New Orleans Saints, who have only done so one time in their history with the second overall pick in the 1971 NFL Draft by selecting Archie Manning.
While it feels wild that the Seahawks haven’t put a lot into the position, hitting on a trade with Matt Hasselbeck and Wilson in the third round in 2012. With the restructuring of Geno Smith’s contract this offseason, that is likely not to happen in 2024, extending the second-longest such streak in the NFL.
