Lincoln — Shortly after Nebraska announced that it had acquired a new permanent athletic director, Matt Rhule strolled over during a break in the Pro Day action Wednesday morning inside the Hawks Center, a smile on his face.
The NU football coach claimed that while Rhule was at Temple and Dannen was at Tulane, he had professional acquaintance with the incoming Huskers quarterback, A.D. Troy Dannen. And what he’s witnessed has impressed him.
Rhule remarked, “I think Troy fits all the criteria that I think we’re all looking for.” He is an outstanding director of athletics. He has served on the oversight committee in addition to all the major committees. He’s aware of the problems affecting collegiate football. He’s a really amazing man.
And it’s not a criticism to my sister’s alma mater, the University of Washington, which is a fantastic institution; I just know that he wanted to be here and go home. I am aware that the news was released. I’m thrilled to have him and am revved up. The University of Nebraska made progress today, in my opinion.
The rapidity of the hiring, according to Rhule, is indicative of both the caliber and volume of applicants, as well as the work interim Nebraska president Chris Kabourek accomplished in heading the search. Former A.D. Trev Alberts abruptly left for Texas A&M last week. Since he hadn’t received any formal word yet, Rhule declined to comment on the Board of Regents’ designation of Dr. Jeffrey Gold as the NU president’s top contender.
According to Rhule, Nebraska’s potential is still apparent in the long run. The amenities, including the recently installed weight room, have left NFL scouts in awe.
“What Dannen accomplished at Tulane is incredible,” Rhule remarked. That is the reason Washington and other people desired him. Furthermore, he told me, “This is just a special place.”
Raiola will toss on Pro Day
During Pro Day, Dylan Raiola, a freshman and former five-star quarterback recruit, will toss passes to Nebraska receivers, according to Rhule. Raiola’s claim was based on the freshman’s ability to throw and lack of class.
