They add an offensive player at the end.

Brandon Parker, the 49ers’ backup offensive tackle, recently inked a one-year contract, the organisation announced on Monday. In theory, he took Matt Pryor’s spot as the 49ers’ backup right tackle from the previous campaign.

The 49ers have grabbed Parker as their first offensive addition of the summer. He might not even make the squad.

Due to injury, 28-year-old Parker has missed all but five games over the last two seasons. When Jon Gruden was still managing the Raiders in 2018, he was originally selected in the third round by the organisation. Additionally, it was Gruden that handed Kyle Shanahan his NFL debut. Shanahan likely likes Parker because Gruden does as well, and those two have similar perspectives.

However, it appears to me that the 49ers are just fabricating the appearance that the right tackle situation has been addressed.

Initially, they granted a one-year extension through 2025 to Colton McKivitz, which is hardly an extension at all. The 49ers don’t have a lot of faith in him. Then Parker, whose body may be failing, was signed.

Every pundit going into the offseason felt that offensive lineman was the 49ers’ most pressing need and that they would almost certainly choose one in the first round. The 49ers want to target a position with the first choice, but analysts are unsure of which position they would choose.
