Zach Wilson’s trade market might be as lively as a slug colony.

The Jets had hoped to trade for Wilson throughout the offseason, but the situation appears dire after seeing other quarterbacks selected in the 2021 NFL Draft being dealt for extremely low prices.

The Patriots traded a 2024 sixth-round pick to the Jaguars in exchange for Mac Jones, who was selected thirteen picks behind Wilson.

Taken No. 11 overall in 2021, Justin Fields was acquired by the Bears from the Steelers in exchange for only a 2025 conditional sixth-round pick that, depending on how much time he plays, could become a fourth.

What does that entail for Wilson, then?

There’s no denying that Fields and Jones have displayed greater promise than Wilson.

Prior to things in New England going south after Josh McDaniels departed as offensive coordinator in 2021, Jones was a Pro Bowl player.

Fields has gained 2,220 yards by running and 6,674 yards by throwing. Before Chicago recruited D.J. Moore last year, he didn’t have much to work with, though he has displayed glimpses of tantalising athleticism.

Over the course of three seasons, Wilson has played a lot but hasn’t had many great games.

What does that entail for Wilson, then?

Just 57% of the passes he has attempted have been completed, and he has thrown 25 interceptions and 23 touchdowns.

In addition, he has had off-field events that do not bode well for him on the squad. You can start in 2022 in New England, where he was blameless for the Patriots’ 10-3 defeat.

He was benched in favour of Mike White as a result. After being benched for Tim Boyle in December of the previous season, he voiced hesitancy to assume the starting role once more.

For a while now, the Jets have been prepared to let go of Wilson.
