Kalen DeBoer, the football coach at Alabama, signs an eight-year contract: Pay, buyout, and other information
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama: On Monday, the UA System Board of Trustees’ pay committee approved the contract of Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer.
DeBoer will receive $87 million during the course of the eight-year contract, which expires on December 31, 2031. In the first year, he will receive $10 million, and in the last year, he will be paid $11.75 million.
DeBoer’s salary with that contract jumps dramatically; he was paid a total of $4.2 million at Washington this past season. According to the USA TODAY football coach salary database, that placed them 44th out of all public school coaches. But he was expected to get a big increase after leading the Huskies to the College Football Playoff. Following the Sugar Bowl, Troy Dannen, the director of athletics at Washington, revealed he made a $9.4 million offer.
But in the end, DeBoer declined that offer in order to take Nick Saban’s place as head coach at Alabama, after Saban’s decision to resign on January 10. In 2024, Saban was projected to earn $11.5 million.
90% of DeBoer’s contract is assured.
What is the buyout of Kalen DeBoer?
If DeBoer quits Alabama before his contract expires, Alabama would be entitled to the following:
$5 million in 2024
2025: $4 million
$3 million in 2026
