All things considered, Auburn basketball has benefited greatly from the depth of this senior class.
Bruce Pearl, the head coach of Auburn, stated, “Obviously, these are guys that have been in the program for a long time.” “Johni will perform for the All-SEC team twice. Depending on how far we go, he could win several national honors. However, Dylan, K.D., Chris, Lior, Jaylin, and the other players are the faces of Auburn basketball.
“The game will get off to an emotional start. Both Auburn and those boys had a deep love for each other.
Over the years, all this senior class has accomplished is create history. It’s the same this year. If No. 13 wins its game against Georgia on Saturday, stated Pearl. “Auburn basketball’s record of thirteen victories would tie for third place in program history. We would be looking at the second-best regular season in the previous ten years.
“I doubt that I anticipated it. I thought we had eleven excellent players. We had excellent depth. We had good kids, so I felt that we might have a fantastic chemistry together. This seems like a decent team with the potential to be really excellent. At this moment, the team has proven to be excellent and has the potential to be extremely good.”
Pearl, though, is aware that the Tigers will have to work for it on Saturday against a Georgia squad that just defeated Ole Miss and has a strong road record in the SEC, having won three straight and given Florida and Kentucky all they can handle.
At 5:3 p.m. CT, Auburn and Georgia will square off from Neville Arena. The radio call will be hosted by Sonny Smith and Andy Burcham on 94.3 FM, as well as on AuburnTigers.com and the Auburn app. SEC Network will broadcast the match.
Denver Jones scored ten points in Auburn’s victory over Missouri on Tuesday, his seventh consecutive game with at least ten points for the club. Over that time, he has shot 44.4 percent from deep range and is averaging 10.7 points per game. If he had enough free throws to meet the requirement of 2.5 made free throws per game, he would rank second in the SEC with his current 61-of-67 (91%) free throw shooting percentage.
Jones has now scored in double digits in 12 games this season, seven of which have come in SEC action. At Missouri, he scored more than 1,200 points in his career, and as of right now, he has 1,202 points.
