The United Football League is right around the corner. It will at least help fill some of the void left behind from the NFL season wrapping up, and there’s certainly some intrigue to the combined forces of the XFL and USFL. The UFL Rostersbeing just over a month to go, there’s some Saints flavor to some of them. are taking shape, and with there Here’s some of the New Orleans ties on the current rosters of the eight teams.

Sy Barnett, wide receiver: After the draft the previous year, Barnett was selected as an undrafted rookie free agent. Regretfully, he spent less than a month with the Saints.
DC Defenders D.J. Swearinger, S. – The thirty-two-year-old safety originally signed with the Saints the following year after joining them late in the 2019 campaign. He was one of the numerous players who ended up on the COVID list during the season, and he undoubtedly had an impact.

Emmanuel Butler, wide receiver: A true hero of the Saints’ training camp who failed to catch on despite establishing a name for himself as an undrafted rookie in 2019. After hanging out with the practice squad, he inked a reserve/future contract for the 2020 campaign. He was waived in early September after the same incident that occurred during camp.
Cyril Grayson, WR: An LSU player who hails from Kenner. He played for five different clubs before joining the Saints in May 2019. He signed in mid-May, was waived in late August, and didn’t play another game until early December when he was acquired by the Cowboys.
Another local player, Kirk Merritt, is a wide receiver who was not selected in the 2020 NFL Draft and signed a reserve/future contract with the Saints in 2022.
