Tommy DeVito, the quarterback for the Giants and capo of New Jersey, was teased by the Saints, who survived to tell the tale. The Saints thrashed DeVito and the Giants on Sunday, 24-6.
The Saints players’ taunts indicated that they were well aware of the DeVito hype train making its way to Caesars Superdome in Week 15.
After two solid defensive plays by the Saints, New Orleans players gave DeVito and the offense a hard time by mimicking his Tommy Cutlets (🤌) touchdown celebration.
The NY phenomenon around DeVito—a true-blooded Italian guiding the Giants on a miraculous run—finally came to an end when the team’s three-game winning streak came to an end. The ‘Tommy Cutlets’ gesture was deemed too extravagant by many who weren’t supporting the Jints, as they didn’t enjoy its flavor. DeVito took over a 2-9 squad, and the Giants offense, which had been riding Wink Martindale’s defense for the majority of their victories, failed to gain any more confidence during the winning run.
Against New Orleans, DeVito completed 20 of 34 pass attempts for 177 yards. The Giants’ offensive line gave up four sacks in the first half as they were unable to keep up with the Saints’ pass rush. In all, New Orleans had seven sacks at the end.
The heartwarming tale of DeVito, an undrafted 2023 rookie who has seized his moment and inspired a sense of hometown pride among the team’s supporters, is not diminished by Sunday’s defeat.
