Jacob Eason — who spent time as the Seahawks’ backup quarterback during the 2021 season — is re-signing to the Giants’ practice squad, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.
Eason had spent a month on the Giants’ practice squad earlier this season before being released in December.
“Giants re-sign QB Jacob Eason to practice with the team,” Raanan wrote on Thursday, Jan. 4. “It seems like an unexpected event.
Tyrod Taylor (back) was listed as limited on the injury report. The 26-year-old Eason became a quarterback early in his NFL career.
After being selected by the Indianapolis Colts with a fourth-round pick during the 2020 NFL Draft, Eason bounced from team to team.
After being released by the Colts midway through the 2021 season, Eason landed with the Seahawks following a midseason injury to Russell Wilson.
He served in a reserve role until the end of the 2021 season before being released during roster cuts prior to the start of the 2022 season.
Since then, Eason has played with the Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers and Giants.
Despite moving from team to team, Eason saw little action, going 5 of 10 for 84 yards and two interceptions in two games.
Eason’s signing to the Giants’ practice squad was largely due to the injury to starter Tyrod Taylor.
Tommy DeVito is currently the backup quarterback and would see playing time against the Philadelphia Eagles if Taylor is ejected from the game.

Jacob Eason was once the top QB prospect in the 2016 classWhile Eason has had a less than stellar career in the NFL, he was once a highly touted quarterback. The 6-foot-4 quarterback was considered the best quarterback to come out of high school in 2016.
Eason was so highly regarded that he was courted and received offers from major programs such as the Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes, Alabama Crimson Tide and Florida State Seminoles. He eventually committed to the Georgia Bulldogs.
He spent his freshman season in 2016 as the starting quarterback and entered as a starter in the 2017 season.
However, an early season injury and the emergence of Jake Fromm – Fromm led the Bulldogs to the national championship game after Eason’s injuries – led to Eason permanently losing his starting job. Shortly thereafter, Eason would move to the Washington Huskies.
Although his college career certainly never lived up to his expectations coming out of high school, Eason still had high expectations heading into the NFL draft. As Lance Zierlein of NFL.
com wrote in his scouting report on Eason in 2020, his NFL comparison was none other than former No. 1 overall pick and three-time Pro Bowler Carson Palmer.
Although Zierlein talks about Eason’s lack of mobility and effectiveness under pressure, he predicts he will be selected in the second round of the draft.
“His elite size and arm talent are reminiscent of Carson Palmer, but the issues with pocket retention and passing cleanly through advances are more reminiscent of Brock Osweiler,” Zierlein wrote.
“It’s fun to see Eason take shots down the field and make deep throws, but the lack of mobility in and out of the pocket is concerning given his ineffectiveness under pressure.”Eason clearly did not live up to these expectations.
If the Giants keep him for next season, the former five-star prospect might finally get the chance to start his first game.
