NRL player Spencer Leniu is accused of using a racial slur during a game in Las Vegas by teammate Ezra Mam.
The Brisbane Broncos Spencer Leniu of the Sydney Roosters has been brought to a judicial panel after Ezra Mam accused him of using a racist slur during an NRL game in Las Vegas. Leniu maintained “nothing” happened when questioned about the incident.
Ezra Mam of the Brisbane Broncos has accused Spencer Leniu of the Sydney Roosters of making a racist remark against him at a Las Vegas NRL game.
The NRL is currently looking into Mam’s complaint, an Indigenous Australian, which she made to the referee during the Broncos’ 20-10 loss at Allegiant Stadium.
Leniu will appear before a judiciary panel, which has the authority to impose penalties like fines and suspensions from games, on the grounds that he violated the NRL’s behaviour code.
Referee Adam Gee brought up the accusation against Samoan international Leniu during the match, and he said, “Why would I say that?” following their placement on report. Leniu stated that “nothing” happened and that “it’s all just fun and games on the field” in response to questions over the incident in a radio interview that followed the game.
After the game, when words were exchanged, Leniu was allegedly challenged by Broncos players at the team hotel.
Mam was “adamant” about what he heard, according to Brisbane coach Kevin Walters, who added, “Ezra is pretty upset, we will leave that in the hands of the NRL to police and adjudicate on.”
“It’s disgusting we still have that stuff in our game, and I really feel for one of my good mates,” Reece Walsh of Brisbane told Channel Nine. That kind of activity just detracts from our efforts to construct something over here.”
