The Baby Broncos certainly aren’t lacking any confidence, even if they are walking wounded with a losing record heading into the Queensland derby.

Brisbane are currently missing half of their 2023 grand final side and there has been no bigger loss than Dally M Centre of the Year Herbie Farnworth, but his replacement Selwyn Cobbo has a message for the doubters.

Kevin Walters could be without three of his best players for the clash against the unbeaten Cowboys on Friday night, with Payne Haas and Reece Walsh injured, while Adam Reynolds will be given until game day to prove his fitness.

It takes the total missing from last year’s grand final to seven as Farnworth, Tom Flegler, Kurt Capewell and Keenan Palasia have all departed.

Farnworth and Flegler both enjoyed breakout seasons in 2023 and have since joined Wayne Bennett at cross-town rivals the Dolphins.

Foxsports.com.au spoke with their replacements, Cobbo and Corey Jensen, and the pair both say the Broncos can “definitely” get back to the grand final this year.

Cobbo has become a leader in the backline – which last weekend had an average age of 22.4 years – after moving from wing to centre this season.

The 21-year-old, who is often compared to NRL legend Greg Inglis, grew up playing in the centres and has made a strong start to filling Farnworth’s enormous shoes.

“They’re big shoes to fill but I reckon I’ll get those shoes filled, yeah,” Cobbo said.
