On Monday, Alabama football officially announced the hiring of two defensive coaches. Maurice Linguist and Colin Hitschler will be joining Kalen DeBoer’s staff, the Crimson Tide announced.

As defensive backs coaches and co-defensive coordinators, the two new hires will have the same title.

In a press release, DeBoer stated, “We are thrilled to have Maurice and Colin join our staff at Alabama.” “Maurice brings a track record of success coaching defensive backs in addition to head coaching experience. Colin is a master strategist, a man of great knowledge and experience, and he has a track record of helping his players improve their skill sets. They are both excellent teachers and seasoned recruiters.

Linguist left his position as head coach at Buffalo to join the Crimson Tide. In 2023, the Bulls finished with a 7-6 record and a Camellia Bowl victory.

Having coached cornerbacks at Texas A&M and safeties at Mississippi State, he brings SEC experience to Alabama. His previous coaching positions were as the cornerbacks coach for the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota, Iowa State, and Buffalo before arriving at Buffalo in 2020.

According to Linguist’s statement in the release, “I have always had an incredible admiration for Alabama’s long history of success.” “I’m excited about the chance to support Coach DeBoer in carrying on that winning legacy and helping our players grow both on and off the field.”

Hitschler, a Wisconsin native, joins the Tide. He was a co-DC in Madison and coached safeties for one season with the Badgers.
