When the Pittsburgh Steelers chose to appoint Arthur Smith as their new offensive coordinator at the start of the 2024 offseason, it was a significant move. It is likely that there will be more staff changes in the weeks preceding the league’s March new year. It’s been reported that the organization is open to adding more players, but one with passing-game coordinator experience would be ideal. Additionally, if a coach who has been with Pittsburgh since the start of the 2021 season receives an offer and accepts it, Pittsburgh may lose him.
Sullivan is a seasoned professional playcaller with a wealth of experience. When the New York Giants won the Super Bowl at the end of the 2011 season, he was also their quarterbacks coach. Because of that achievement, he was hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to be their offensive coordinator. However, he returned to New York in 2015 and remained there for two of those years.
The way Kenny Pickett has developed hasn’t exactly gone as expected, which may make Steelers supporters want Sullivan to move on. The problem with that is that Canada’s poor play-calling was primarily responsible for Pickett’s struggles. Rudolph demonstrated what could be done with the playmakers for the Steelers if the
Sullivan and Pickett also appear to get along well. Losing the player with whom Pickett has collaborated closely since being selected in the 2022 draft could impede the signal-caller’s development and prevent Pittsburgh from expecting him to make a significant leap in 2024. Given that Klint Kubiak appears to be out of the picture as well, the Raiders won’t be waiting long to act. It’s possible that Sullivan will become their guy.
