St. Louis Battlehawks re-sign former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback AJ McCarron in the UFL
Quarterback AJ McCarron has been re-signed with the St. Louis Battlehawks for the 2024 United Football League season.
Along with four previous USFL teams, the Battlehawks are one of the four XFL teams that will make up the new UFL.
The 33-year-old, 220-pound native of Mobile, Alabama, who stands 6 feet 3 inches tall, made his debut with the Battlehawks in 2023. He led the XFL with a completion percentage of 68.8% and threw 24 touchdown passes, setting a record. After starter Joe Burrow suffered a season-ending wrist injury at the close of the XFL season, he signed with the Cincinnati Bengals and played for the last six weeks of the season on their active roster.
The Bengals selected McCarron in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft after he had a very successful career at Alabama. During his four years as a Crimson Tide player, he passed for 9,019 yards and 77 touchdowns, finishing second in the Heisman Trophy voting in his final year of play. He has played for the Bengals, Raiders, and Texans in 19 NFL games overall.
On February 26, the Battlehawks and three other XFL teams will convene in Arlington, Texas, for a combined training camp with four former USFL teams. The 10-week UFL season begins on March 30.
