While most of Alabama’s 2024 recruiting class is already locked in, there are some notable storylines to keep an eye on now that the official national signing period has opened.

The Crimson Tide’s entire offseason changed when Nick Saban surprisingly announced his retirement on Jan. 10. The 72-year-old had been with the program since 2007, turning it into one of the most dominant dynasties in college football history.

Though he has a solid background in developing programs, Kalen DeBoer is faced with the difficult task of succeeding Saban. In his debut season in 2020, he guided Fresno State to a.500 record; the following year, he won ten games.

DeBoer won a Pac-12 title, went 25-3 in his two seasons at Washington, and made an appearance in the College Football Playoff Championship Game in January.

The ability of DeBoer to apply his winning formula from Washington to SEC opponents will be one of the major narratives in college football for the upcoming season.

Five-star wide receivers Ryan Williams and Jaime Ffrench, as well as four-star tight end Amari Niblack, left the Crimson Tide almost immediately after the decision.

Niblack resumed recruiting and soon after made a commitment to Texas. As a member of the recruiting class of 2025, Ffrench still has time to be persuaded to stay by DeBoer and his team. Competition for his services is fierce.

For Ffrench, Texas A&M seems to be a formidable opponent. The native of Jacksonville also shared a photo of himself that he took at Mandarin (Fla.) High School with LSU co-offensive coordinators Joe Sloan and Cortez Hankton.
