LOUISVILLE, KY: In a matter of hours, One Louisville Street turned into a violent nightmare on Tuesday. Some West Gaulbert Avenue residents were concerned about the future of their community after the incidents.

“There are simply a lot of shootings and crimes occurring. It’s just depressing,” said local Victoria Johnson.

Johnson stood on her parent’s porch and watched one scene play out. Just before 4 p.m., she said, everything was quiet until a number of police cars surrounded the area.

Her words, “I didn’t know what to think,” were unclear. “I didn’t know what to think, but it was two different incidents going on.”

About 11:40 a.m., the first one took place.

Then just few doors down, police responded to a stabbing at a home near South 28th & West Gaulbert Avenue. LMPD said two men had a fight inside and one of the men suffered a “laceration” to the arm, which Johnson said is out character for the street.

“It’s peaceful around here, but it’s normally guns shots on the outskirt,” she said.

She said seeing crime make its way in, is a sign of where Louisville is heading.

“It has gotten worse over the time. You don’t know if you’re going to be here or not”, Johnson said. “It’s like the teenagers are dying before the adults. They’re not even living their lives.”

It’s causing her to feel helpless for her children and the families nearby.

“All you can do is pray because there so much going on. That’s all you can do,” she said.

The LMPD Homicide Unit is handling the homicide and there are no known suspects.
