The Colorado Avalanche boast a roster full of superstars, but a recent thought that has Avs Nation abuzz is the idea of veteran Pittsburgh Penguins great Sidney Crosby joining the team. Is this a likely move? Does any side find it reasonable?

Here, let’s begin with the obvious observations: Indeed, Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon are close friends. When they were both residing in Nova Scotia, they were neighbors. Yep, Crosby’s career is in the Hall of Fame. For 2023–24, Crosby is expected to record 48 goals and 41 assists. It’s clear that he still has something to give. It appears that he can play for as long as he wants to.

That being said, how much incentive does a 36-year-old player with three Stanley Cup triumphs in his career have to play on? For a chance to win another Stanley Cup, would he want to go to a another city? That doesn’t seem possible to me.

Additionally, Crosby has all the money he needs, so it’s unlikely that this will spur him to play for a different team in the future. Crosby’s career earnings are $141,340,243, according to CapFriendly.

I can only imagine a Crosby-to-Colorado situation if it’s always been his dream to play with Nathan MacKinnon. Though, let’s face it, playing on the same team during the All-Star break isn’t nearly the same as winning a Stanley Cup.

Though it’s possible that the two will compete together once more in 2026 at the Olympics.

It’s possible that Crosby has a little more left in him, but he has nothing more to prove. He is among the greatest Penguins in history, right up there with players like Mario Lemieux. In my opinion, the Pittsburgh Penguins would be willing to allow Crosby to continue playing where he started and offer him a one- or two-year contract to cap off an incredible career.
