According to Aaron McMann of MLive.com, former Michigan Wolverines defensive coordinator Jesse Minter will be joining his former employer Jim Harbaugh’s staff with the Los Angeles Chargers. Minter is expected to report to the Bolts this week.
Minter, the second understudy from the Wolverines to join Harbaugh at the professional level for the 2024 season, was reportedly expected to sign with Los Angeles “by the end of the week,” according to sources who spoke with McMann.
According to McMann, Minter had been telling his Michigan teammates that he planned to take the position. Los Angeles and Minter have not yet made the transition official as of this writing.
Reappointing Jim’s son Jay Harbaugh to the Bolts’ coaching staff would mean that Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore will have to replace all three of his coordinators coming into the 2019–20 season, which will be one year after Michigan’s College Football Playoff victory. Harbaugh is already in Los Angeles, as is Ben Herbert, the former strength coach for the Wolverines.
During his two seasons with the team, Minter guided the Wolverines to two top-10 defenses. Both of those years were Big Ten championships for the club. This past season, Minter’s defense was extremely good; it allowed 10.4 points, which ranked it as the top scoring defense, and 247 yards, which was also the best in the nation.
