MIAMI HEATWith the exception of LeBron James, the NBA aims to get younger at every opportunity. The Miami Heat did this by acquiring guard Terry Rozier last month in exchange for Kyle Lowry. Rozier, 29, is eight years younger than Lowry.
His age and higher rating are one of the reasons Los Angeles Clippers coach Tyronn Lue thinks Rozier has been such a solid addition for the Heat.
“Just the ability to add speed, shoot, have great scoring ability and is a good defender,” Lue said Sunday before facing the Heat. “He’s going to play hard and compete.
Kyle bought a lot of stuff, similar, but a lot younger than Kyle. He can do it every night. Kyle’s 37, he can do it sometimes. Rozier is a good pickup. He’s a good player. He adds that little something extra to the offense.
”Rozier has averaged 10.8 points, 5.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds since signing. The idea is that he is another player who can take the scoring burden off striker Jimmy Butler.
Last year, the Heat relied too heavily on Butler, especially during the playoffs when guard Tyler Herro was sidelined with a broken wrist.
Now the Heat have three players, including Bam Adebayo, who can score 20 points every night. “As long as he contributes to the win,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.
“In the last two games he really contributed to the victory. It takes everything for him to reach his full offensive rhythm, but in the meantime he has an influence on the game, an influence on the victory and that’s what he does.”
