Mike Macdonald is the next head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. To improve the team, Macdonald and general manager John Schneider have a lot of work ahead of them. There is a lot of potential in Seattle, especially young talent, therefore it should be expected that Macdonald can shape Devon Witherspoon, Boye Mafe, and company into a strong team.
However, the team’s current lack of cap room will make Macdonald’s and Schneider’s duties more challenging. Spotrac indicates that Seattle now has $-799,027 in capital space. The team would not even have enough room to sign their 2024 NFL draft picks, so that has to change. It is likely that Seattle will cut a few players that are hogging a lot of cap space.
However, Bleacher Report offers a different suggestion about how the Seahawks can free up cap space. Rather than cut loose three players, safety Jamal Adams, tight end Will Dissly, and wide receiver Tyler Lockett, Seattle might consider deals for them. Dissly is not very productive, which lessens the likelihood of a trade even though he is paid like one of the league’s better tight ends.
Tyler Lockett is unlikely to be traded by the Seattle Seahawks.
Given Adams’ huge $26,916,666 cap charge and lack of output over the past three seasons, I’m not sure why any team would want to trade for him. I might wonder why I support a team that traded for Adams throughout the summer if I were a fan of that group. With a post-June 1st designation, Seattle could save $16.5 million by releasing Adams.
