Sydney van Hooijdonk: Bologna sends a Dutch striker to Norwich on loan
Sydney van Hooijdonk, an attacker, has been loaned to Norwich City by Italian team Bologna for the remainder of the campaign.
The 23-year-old is the son of Pierre van Hooijdonk, a former 1990s player who earned 46 caps for the Netherlands while playing for Nottingham Forest and Celtic.
After spending the majority of the previous two seasons on loan at Heerenveen, Van Hooijdonk has made 11 appearances for Bologna this season and scored one.
He is the first player Norwich has added in the January transfer window.
Sydney is a guy with genuine talent and pedigree who has already had some amazing experiences in his career, according to Canaries sporting director Ben Knapper, who made this statement on the team’s website.
“We’re excited to continue that journey with him, and as both a person and player we feel he’s a great fit for our environment and strategy.”
When Norwich hosts Coventry City at home on Saturday, they sit ninth in the Championship and are three points outside of the play-off spots.
