WANDERERS have rejected reports that they have received requests from “overseas” clubs for Victor Adeboyejo.

Ian Evatt has laughed off the speculation after seeing the Nigerian striker score his eighth goal of the season to beat Cheltenham Town at the Toughsheet Stadium last night.

It was suggested that an overseas club had made contact after being impressed by the former Barnsley man’s performance against Luton Town in the FA Cup.

But Evatt is in no mood to consider leaving in January.“This is news to me…Certainly not a phone call I received!” he told the Bolton News.

“Victor is one of our players and he will stay with us, there is no doubt about that.“We will try to expand that group forward and not deplete it.

”Adeboyejo scored his first goal of 2024 to sink the Robins and is becoming the role he will be asked to play for the Wanderers, says Evatt.”He took his goal very well, I’m very happy for him,” the coach said.

“He’s still improving and hasn’t played much of his career as a number nine, just six months at Burton and his time here. He is still learning his craft and improving.

“Many viewers of the live match felt that Bolton had suffered a real disappointment after the break, when George Lloyd’s goal was disallowed for offside by referee Benjamin Speedie.

Assistant Joe Simpson only raised the flag after his colleague blew the whistle, prompting an angry reaction from the away team.

It later emerged that defender Sean Long, not Lloyd, had been penalized for preventing Bolton players from getting the ball.Evatt said:

“It was a brilliant decision. Darrell was furious at the time because the player was actually onside.

But it was the attacking defenders who went offside, preventing our defenders from recovering.

They had influenced the action, so I thought it was a fantastic decision by the referee.”Wanderers thought they should have been awarded a first-half penalty during a melee involving Dion Charles and three Cheltenham men.

“I think it was a penalty, but we won’t sit here and complain too much because there was a great decision, without the use of VAR, seeing it live is a great decision,” Evatt added.
