Cole McConathy II, a three-star defensive end/rush linebacker, switched his commitment from Louisville to the Hurricanes on Wednesday night.

Coincidentally, No. 9 Louisville (10th in the College Football Playoff rankings) comes to town to face the Canes in a nationally televised (ABC) afternoon game Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium.

McConathy announced his change of heart on social media.

He had been committed to Louisville since July. On page 247, he is ranked No. 74 nationally and the 44th best player in Alabama.

He plays at Spanish Fort High School.In the On3.com industry rankings, he is the 88th player at the Edge Rusher position, the 47th best player in Alabama and the No. 1,096 player in the country at any position.

Following McConathy’s commitment, On3 is ranked 14th nationally for UM recruiting in 2024, and 247 puts the Canes at 11th.
