Florida Gators under NCAA investigation for this former commitment against the Miami HurricanesThe NCAA has been investigating Florida’s football program since JuneThe NCAA recently investigated both of Miami’s biggest rivals.
First, on July 11, the NCAA announced NIL-related sanctions against the Florida State Seminoles.
They were placed on probation for two years, forced to end their relationship with the Rising Spear Collective for three years, and offensive coordinator Alex Atkins was suspended three games for Level II violations.
FSU will also give up a total of five football scholarships over the next two years.Eight days later, it was the Florida Gators’ turn in the spotlight.
Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times first reported that the University of Florida had been under investigation by the NCAA since June 9.
The investigation reportedly stems from the botched NIL deal promised to former Miami Hurricanes signee Jaden Rashada.
In November 2022, Rashada moved from Miami to Florida after the Gator Collective promised her a $13 million name, image and likeness deal.
The collective returned to the agreement. Rashada was released from his National Letter of Intent and eventually signed with Arizona State.
As a high school senior, Rashada was a consensus 4-star recruit and finalist in the prestigious Elite 11 quarterback competition.
It is not yet clear what sanctions will be imposed on Florida. The now-defunct Gator Collective was considered a third-party fundraising group.
The severity of sanctions imposed on Florida will likely depend on whether the NCAA can link any member of the Florida football team or administration to wrongdoing.
