Texas’s Austin For the 2024 season, the Texas Longhorns football team will have an additional weapon in their arsenal.
Isaiah Bond, a wide receiver from Alabama, committed to the team on Sunday, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Bond made his way onto the transfer site on Wednesday, following Alabama head coach Nick Saban’s announcement of his retirement. The decision was motivated, according to the ESPN story, by Bond’s desire to improve his draft stock ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft and Saban’s departure.
With 48 catches for 668 yards and four touchdowns in 2023, Bond led the Crimson Tide in catches. When he caught a Hail Mary throw from quarterback Jalen Milroe in the closing seconds of the game against Auburn on November 25, it was one of those scores that completed one of the most memorable moments of the season. The play gave the Crimson Tide the victory, kept them in the running for, and eventually guaranteed a spot in the College Football Playoffs.
After the Longhorns’ Sugar Bowl defeat to Washington, starting wide receivers Xavier Worthy and A.D. Mitchell announced their intentions to enter the NFL Draft, leaving a somewhat empty receiving corps. Bond will join these players.
Bond’s expertise will probably make him an instant starter for the Longhorns in 2024. On April 20, he will play in the Orange-White Spring Game for the team on the Forty Acres.
