Brandon Aiyuk is in the midst of contract negotiations ahead of training camp, and Deebo Samuel reported to mandatory minicamp and OTAs looking to silence some doubters. Aiyuk and Samuel rank as one of the top duos in the NFL, and their separate skill sets mesh perfectly with the 49ers offense. Following an incredibly efficient season for Aiyuk comes the reward of a contract extension. With over 1,300 yards on only 75 receptions, which averages 17.9 yards per catch, coupled with Aiyuk’s blocking prowess has pushed the former ASU receiver up receiver rankings. Samuel’s impact on the offense is his gravity and game-breaking ability after the catch. In 2021, Samuel eclipsed 1,700 total yards, including 1,405 receiving yards.
According to PFF, Aiyuk and Samuel have topped some more lists in 2023. PFF has released the players with the highest grades running specific routes. Aiyuk topped the list, running “out” and “post” routes. Samuel topped the league running “in” routes.
Being in the same group as Hill and his game-breaking speed is a testament to Aiyuk’s route-running acumen. Averaging 3.47 yards per route is impressive in its own right for Aiyuk. Last season was a revelation for Aiyuk, and his numbers prove what the film says.
Samuel doesn’t get the same respect for his route running as much as Aiyuk does, but here are PFF’s thoughts about Samuel topping the list on “in” routes.
