This offseason, Mike Macdonald was a top coaching target for a number of teams; however, the Seattle Seahawks were ultimately fortunate to land him.

The Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers, and Washington Commanders were among the other teams that expressed interest in Macdonald. The decision by Macdonald to attend Seattle instead of any of those teams surprised NFL insider Adam Schefter.

“To be honest, we had a brief conversation about it, but I was a little surprised that he ended up taking the Seattle job,” Schefter stated on Seattle Sports’ “Wyman and Bob.” “.. They felt forced to go out and select the Seahawks even though they had no real ties to this area.

One might wonder what connections Macdonald had to other teams, given that Schefter brought up personal ties. Stephanie Macdonald, his wife, is the one with whom he shares those personal ties.

According to Schefter, Mike Macdonald not only from the D.C. area, but she also used to be a cheerleader for the Commanders franchise. In addition, Macdonald is an East Coaster originally from Boston, and Washington is as close to Baltimore as it gets.

From a football-only standpoint, Seattle presented the best opportunity, even with those personal ties to the nation’s capital. This offseason, the Seahawks had the best record of any team without a coaching vacancy, and Macdonald found the team’s direction to be especially appealing.

We spoke briefly about it, and Schefter explained that he took that action because he had a great deal of faith in John Schneider, the general manager. “It’s quite remarkable that someone could uproot their entire life, including their family’s, primarily because of their strong feelings for the general manager, John Schneider, and the work he’s done in Seattle. Mike has a lot of faith in him, so we can expect those two to go to work and try to improve this team.

Macdonald is currently the youngest NFL coach, having turned 37 later this month. However, it’s safe to say that the Seahawks have a lot of faith in him to finish the job, given that he was the driving force behind the NFL’s top defense the previous season.
