A shocking claim circulating online has brought renewed attention to former Newcastle Knights great Andrew Johns and his family, with allegations concerning his former marriage to Cathrine Mahoney and their son, Louis Byron Johns.

According to the claim, Johns allegedly revealed that Louis was not his biological child and further alleged that Mahoney had been involved with a former Newcastle Knights player. However, there is currently no credible evidence or reliable reporting confirming these allegations, and they should not be treated as established facts.

Publicly available information records that Andrew Johns and Cathrine Mahoney married in 2007 and welcomed their son Louis in March 2009. The couple later separated and eventually divorced. Mahoney has subsequently spoken publicly about their relationship and divorce, including in her memoir and interviews.

Johns remains one of the most celebrated figures in Newcastle Knights history. The National Rugby League recognises him as an NRL Immortal, and his career included two premierships with Newcastle, the Australian captaincy and numerous individual honours.

At present, there is no reliable evidence establishing the extraordinary claims circulating online about Louis’s biological parentage or an alleged affair involving Mahoney. Until verifiable evidence or an on-record statement from the people concerned becomes available, the allegations should be regarded as unconfirmed claims rather than fact.
