McCall previously managed Bradford City on multiple occasions, including a second spell that ended in February 2018. At that time, the club confirmed his departure following a difficult run of results and thanked him for his contribution to the team.
More recently, McCall was working as an assistant to Paul Heckingbottom at Preston North End, where both men left their positions in September 2026.
