The story has quickly attracted attention because of Quinn’s iconic status among Sunderland supporters. During his playing career, the former striker became a hugely popular figure at the Stadium of Light, making more than 200 appearances for Sunderland and scoring 61 goals.
However, there is no credible evidence that Niall Quinn has publicly confirmed any affair involving Gillian and a Sunderland head coach.
In reality, recent reports continue to identify Gillian Quinn as Niall’s wife. In March 2026, she graduated from Dublin City University with a PhD in Psychology, with Niall and their children present to celebrate the achievement.
The couple have previously spoken openly about difficulties they experienced after Niall retired from professional football, including a period when their marriage came close to breaking down.
