After arriving and quickly becoming one of the most influential figures in the dressing room, Xhaka earned admiration for his leadership, composure, and experience. His presence helped transform expectations around the club and made him a fan favourite at the Stadium of Light.
Although speculation around his future has intensified recently, there has been no official confirmation that the midfielder has announced his departure. Reports in recent days have linked him with interest elsewhere, while Sunderland are reported to be determined to keep hold of one of their key leaders.
If this truly turns out to be the final chapter, supporters will remember more than statistics. They will remember the passion, the leadership, and the belief he helped bring to the club during a memorable period.
