I wish our Minnesota Vikings’ NFL Draft rankings for this year had been released a little sooner. But Sunday of Draft Weekend, at least here, is for finishing up all the unfinished business from Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of Draft Weekend, which explains the delay.
If you’ve followed this site for any length of time, you already know my opinions on the subject of grading a draft before any player who was actually drafted even reports for an NFL mini-camp. I won’t go into that here. But they do provide for interesting conversation starters, so I’ve compiled a respectable number of them for your perusal.
In trades that brought them McCarthy, tight end T.J. Hockenson (in a 2022 deadline deal with Detroit), and edge rusher Turner, the Vikings gave up pick value in 2023, Day 3 picks this year, and a large portion of their 2025 draft. Both McCarthy and Turner have the skill set to justify that investment, but Turner needs to be an impact defender and McCarthy needs to keep up his winning ways at the next level.
Jackson is a long, quick-footed cornerback that looks like Riq Woollen and offers great value in the fourth round. As the swing tackle, Rouse, a powerful and seasoned lineman, replaces the late Oli Udoh. Don’t discount Jurgens’ prospects of being included on the squad.
