Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion, easily defeated Thiago Seyboth Wild to advance to the Madrid Open semifinals.
Third-ranked Alcaraz defeated Brazil’s Seyboth Wild 6-3 6-3.
The victory extends second-seeded Alcaraz’s winning streak at the competition, which dates back to 2022 and 2023.
“Today was the test of fire, no discomfort, feeling spectacular, from here, we’ll be getting better,” Alcaraz, who is 20 years old, said.
After having to withdraw from the Barcelona Open this month due to an injury, the Spaniard was wearing a compression sleeve on his right arm once more. Despite this, he looked fine as he defeated his opponent without a doubt.
Even though Seyboth Wild made a late break in the second set, Alcaraz broke twice in the first and easily won in 75 minutes.
“Maybe today I was a bit nervous about how it would be, Thiago hits the ball so hard, I didn’t know how the forearm would hold up,” said Alcaraz.
Alcaraz has the greatest win percentage of any player in a single ATP-1000 event at the Madrid Open, with 93.3%, since the format’s inception in 1990 (minimum 10 matches played).
Replicating the 2023 final, the two-time major winner will face Germany’s 23rd seed Jan-Lennard Struff in the round of 16.
Struff defeated Ugo Humbert, the 13th seed from France, 7-5 6-4. Struff entered the tournament fresh off his victory at the BMW Open in Munich last week.
In the men’s draw, Polish eighth seed Hubert Hurkacz defeated Germany’s Daniel Altmaier 6-4 7-6 (7-2), while seventh-seeded Russian Andrey Rublev defeated 27th-seeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-6 (12-10) 6-4.
