Cincinnati — Joe Burrow won’t be available for the Bengals’ game against the Steelers on Sunday, but they hope to have several important players return.
Sam Hubbard (ankle) and Tee Higgins (hamstring) have missed the last two games. With a quad injury, Cam Taylor-Britt left their Week 11 loss to the Ravens.
“We’ll see on a lot of those guys,” Zac Taylor, the head coach of the Bengals stated.
On Wednesday, Higgins, Hubbard, and Taylor-Britt are anticipated to be present on the practice pitch. With a pivotal AFC North game against the Steelers approaching, it’s a positive step in the right direction.
As of now, the Bengals have a 5-5 record. They are 0-3 in the division and have lost their last two games.
UPDATED Hubbard was dressed and seemed prepared to practise for the first time since hurting his ankle against the Bills, while Higgins was not.
It is said that safety Taylor Mays, a free agent, has found a home for the upcoming season.
Mays agreed to a new contract with the Bengals, according to Rand Getlin of NFL Network.
It was reported on Wednesday by Geoff Hobson of the team’s official website that the Bengals were “in discussions and have made good progress to bring back safety Taylor Mays and reprise his role as a nickel linebacker to replace the departed Emmanuel Lamur.”
Between 2011 and 2014, Mays was a member of the Bengals’ roster, playing in 50 games and earning his lone career sack during that time.
The 28-year-old played in 14 games with five starts and a career-high five passes defensed with the Oakland Raiders during the previous campaign.
Mays’ market has probably not been overflowing with suitors because of his four-game punishment for breaking the league’s substance-abuse policy, which he received as a previous second-round choice.
Mays’ lacklustre performance from the previous season—Pro Football Focus ranked him 62nd out of 87 safeties overall—could also be a contributing factor.
There is a past between Mays and the Bengals and head coach Marvin Lewis. Additionally, they probably know more about his advantages and disadvantages than any other NFL team.
Despite the possibility of a suspension, he fits their need for a nickel linebacker who can return to coverage.
