Josh Allen is a part of the Jaguars’ long-term plans, they are making sure of it. According to prominent NFL source Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Jacksonville and its star pass rusher have agreed to a five-year, $150 million contract. According to ESPN, the contract contains a guaranteed $88 million. According to OverTheCap.com, Allen is currently the third-highest paid defensive player in terms of annual salary.
Allen stated, “I’m very emotional right now,” during his Wednesday press conference. “The work is not yet finished. I want to convey that to the fan base. Even though I’m really fortunate and pleased to receive these paychecks, I still have to set goals for myself.”
With the deal, Allen will average $30 million year, which will put him behind defensive players Chris Jones ($31.75 million) of the Kansas City Chiefs and defensive lineman Nick Bosa ($34 million) of the San Francisco 49ers. According to ESPN, the Jaguars signed Allen to a contract after tagging him ahead of free agency. The agreement was arranged by WME Sports.
With 17.5 sacks the previous season, Allen set a franchise record for the Jaguars. In addition to earning him a second Pro Bowl nomination in 2023, his performance demonstrated why the Jaguars should make a long-term commitment to him. In his career, the 26-year-old has recorded 251 tackles, eight pass deflections, one defensive score, and 45 sacks. In 2019, Allen was chosen by the Jaguars with the seventh overall pick. After agreeing to a top-of-the-market contract, Allen has high expectations for his future career, but he believes he has the skill and motivation to reach them.
