Alcaraz, who was given a first-round bye, was supposed to face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round. However, Jannik Sinner recently passed him as the world number two.
“I have been working in Monte Carlo and trying to recover until the last minute from an injured pronator teres in my right arm, but it was not possible and I cannot play!” the Spaniard wrote in a message on X, the platform that was formerly known as Twitter.
“I was eager to play, really eager. I’ll see you in the next year.
Last month, Alcaraz triumphed at Indian Wells for the first time since Wimbledon in the summer, but Grigor Dimitrov defeated him in the Miami Open quarterfinals.
For the 20-year-old, who will be defending his crowns in Barcelona and Madrid over the course of the following month, it is a crucial time in the season.
