Carlos Alcaraz withdraws from Monte Carlo Masters for second consecutive year

Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of the Monte Carlo Masters for a second year in a row, with the Spaniard citing an injury in his right arm.

Alcaraz had arrived in Monte Carlo last week, hoping to play in the tournament for only the second time in his career.

However, there had been reports of an injury after the 20-year-old was spotted with strapping on his right arm when practicing.

And now the world No.3 has confirmed these fears in a statement on social media, “I have been working in Monte Carlo and trying to recover until the last minute from an injured pronator teres in my right arm, but it was not possible and I cannot play! I was really looking forward to playing. See you next year!”

This injury comes only seven weeks after the Wimbledon champion sprained his ankle in Rio de Janeiro, an injury Alcaraz confirmed he no longer felt pain in when speaking to press in Monte Carlo.

Alcaraz was supposed to play Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters, but will now be replaced by Italian lucky loser Lorenzo Sonego.
