Ty Shelby, an outside linebacker, was added by the Los Angeles Chargers to their active roster today. Outside linebacker Justin Hollins was placed on Reserve/Injured in a matching move.
Austen Pleasants, a guard/tackle, and defensive lineman Christopher Hinton were both promoted from the practice squad for Sunday’s contest. Furthermore, because linebacker Tanner Muse has not been activated from Reserve/Injured;
Designated for Return, he has been relegated to ‘out’ on Sunday.
Shelby spent some time this season on the Chargers practice squad after joining the organisation as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana-Monroe in 2021.
For the Warhawks, he totaled 149 tackles (60 solo), 25 tackles for loss, and 12.5 sacks in 56 career games over five seasons (2017–21).
Shelby finished his final two seasons at Louisiana-Monroe with honourable mention All-Sun Belt Conference honours. He participated in the 2018–19 basketball season as a player for the Warhawks.
Hinton, a first-year player out of the University of Michigan, played in six games during the previous two seasons of the regular season for the Chargers.
He also made an appearance in the team’s postseason game the previous season. After signing as an undrafted free agent in 2022, Hinton has played for the Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons, and New York Giants in the NFL.
Hinton finished the previous season with three tackles (one solo) and a quarterback hit in four games during the regular season with the Chargers. He participated in the team’s postseason game as well.
Over the course of three seasons (2019–21), Hinton played in 32 games and had 19 starts for Michigan. He finished with a total of 55 tackles (28 solo), 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble, and two recoveries.
In 2021, he recorded a career-high 32 tackles, a forced fumble, and two recoveries, earning him an honourable mention All-Big Ten designation.
Pleasants has played for the Chargers for a portion of the past two seasons, as well as the Cardinals, Bears, and Panthers. He joined the Jaguars in 2020 as an undrafted free agent and made his NFL debut for Carolina in 2021.
Pleasants participated in 37 games as an offensive lineman during his four seasons as a collegiate football player at Ohio (2016–19). In 2018, he was a member of an offence that averaged 40.1 points per game and was selected to the second team of the Mid-American Conference as a senior.
