In anticipation of spring football starting next week, I’m continuing my series of position previews for the Oregon Ducks. Read my preview of the quarterbacks, who will be adding three interesting new players to the mix this spring, if you haven’t already.
Today, I’m focusing on Carlos Locklyn’s running backs, who will replace Bucky Irving, a two-year starter who is now attempting to make it to the NFL after participating in the Scouting Combine the previous week.
For the first time since 2023, when an injury against Colorado unexpectedly terminated his season after just four games, No. 6 is expected to be healthy. Even though Whittington is the fastest of the group, he battles for every yard and doesn’t back down from a fight, so he definitely has power.
Despite being significantly heavier than when he joined the team in 2022 (5’8″, 208 pounds), he was still a good weight and didn’t let it stop him. In fact, it only served to increase his effectiveness, which is what he’s always been when he arrived on school and followed Carlos Locklyn from Western Kentucky.
Although Whittington is the team’s most seasoned player, I’m not sure if he’s a lock to start.
You could put on an Oregon game and persuade yourself that Jordan James was a junior who had been a part of the program for a while if you hadn’t watched him play before last season.
