The USA Today Readers’ Choice rankings for the 2024 MLB season were announced yesterday, and Petco Park is ranked second in the league.

Why this matters The famous San Diego Padres stadium’s award is a little consolation prize after USA Today Network baseball reporters and editors ranked it sixth earlier this month.

This season marks the ballpark’s 20th anniversary. With its expansive food and beer options, downtown skyline vistas, and Gallagher Square (which is now receiving a $20 million renovation), it can make almost anyone a baseball fan.

The most recent: A Padres representative told Axios that the renovated Gallagher Square is expected to be unveiled during the sold-out Padres FanFest on Sunday, while work is still in progress.A new video board at the Sycuan stage will allow spectators to watch the action from a tiered, amphitheater-style seating area on turf as well as a wider gathering area.
Concessions, fan-engraved bricks, and the Tony Gwynn monument will all be on display on a newly constructed elevated viewing deck.
A brand-new playground, an updated and repositioned kids’ ball field, and an off-leash dog park are also planned.

Reporters and editors covering baseball for USA Today referred to Petco Park as “the most aesthetically pleasing baseball facility ever built,” giving homage to the late architect Antoine Predock who created the venue.
