As the NHL Trade Deadline of March 8th draws near, the Montreal Canadiens remain a team to keep an eye on. Several organizations are interested in Montreal because of its important players. It is known that Kent Hughes, the general manager, has been seeking out trading partners.

That offer wouldn’t get any better than moving Sean Monahan for a first-round selection; no one else has moved.

Teams are still contacting general manager Kent Hughes about players Jake Allen and David Savard, according to Marco D’Amico of Montreal Hockey Now. Hughes is still waiting patiently for the best deal and isn’t backing down. Hughes refuses to engage in trading merely for the purpose of trading. He’s hoping for the best offer.

But as D’Amico points out, what happens if both Allen and Savard’s markets dry up before the right price materializes? How then do the Canadians respond? Although we are aware that they will have a top 10 pick in the NHL Draft this year, might they also act as a middleman to help arrange transactions in order to obtain draft capital?

That may well be the case, as NHLRumors.com reported early in the season. Last year, the Canadiens assisted the Sharks and Penguins in moving Nick Bonino. Out of it, Montreal received a prospect and a fifth-round pick. Therefore, the cost might now be substantially greater.
