All the buzz in Lincoln these days might be about the NCAA Tournament, but that could change quickly for the Nebraska football team. Both Matt Rhule and company’s recruiting, as well as spring practice is about to ramp up.

When it does, one of the top targets the Huskers will be trying to sway will be 4-star wide receiver Cortez Mills. The Florida prospect is currently considered a strong lean towards the Miami Hurricanes, however, that could change in the future.

Earlier this week, 247Sports recruiting analyst Tom Loy appeared on the site’s recruiting podcast to discuss Nebraska football’s efforts in pulling Mills away from Miami.

“My Crystal Ball for Cortez Mills is on Miami,” Loy began. “But like I said when I first put it in, the one school I’m watching is Nebraska. He seems to like them a great deal, he’s got a great relationship with the coaching staff and they are one to watch is someone is going to dip into the Sunshine State and get that one done, steal him from Miami; it could be Nebraska.”

It’s worth pointing out that Loy’s segment was talking about a “heat check” for the Nebraska Cornhuskers in recruiting. That alone should get people pretty excited considering that the Huskers have gone a little while since they got a commit.

It appears that national analysts are seeing some chances for Matt Rhule’s unit to heat up and start reeling prospects in. On that note, it’s also worth pointing out that prying Cortez Mills away from Miami isn’t going to be easy.

Loy isn’t the only analyst who believes the Canes’ are the ones to beat for the talented pass-catcher. On 247Sports, he’s joined by Miami beat writer Gaby Urrutia in predicting Mills to the Hurricanes.

On3 currently has Mills going to Miami as a 43 percent chance. The Nebraska football team has just a 14.6 percent chance of landing him. Clearly, the Huskers still have some work to do, but things are trending in a solid direction.
