The 2025 football schedule and the list of in-conference opponents have been released by the
Teams will essentially face the same eight conference opponents as they did in 2024. But 2024 home games will turn into 2025 away games, and vice versa.
For instance, following visits to those four universities in 2024, Alabama will host LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt in 2025. This season, Auburn, Georgia, Missouri, and South Carolina will visit Tuscaloosa; however, that will be in 2025.
Teams also have to play a mandatory match against a team from the Big Ten, ACC, Pac-12, Big 12, or a significant independent.
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey stated in a news release, “We continue to monitor changes across college sports as they relate to future scheduling.”
“Continuing with our current format for the 2025 season provides additional time to understand the impact of the changes happening around us as we determine the appropriate long-term plan for SEC football scheduling.”
The news statement stated that the 2025 slate’s dates “will be announced at a later time.”
Texas and Oklahoma from the Big 12 will join the SEC in 2024, bringing the total number of teams to 16. The top two teams in the standings will now advance to the SEC Championship Game as the conference is doing away with divisions.
These adjustments coincide with a period of profound upheavals in college football. Notably, the College Football Playoff will now feature 12 teams instead of 4, giving the SEC additional postseason slots.
Last year, if there had been a 12-team playoff for college football, Alabama, Georgia, Missouri, and Ole Miss were the four SEC teams that would have advanced, with LSU, at No. 13, coming up just short.
