When the San Antonio Spurs selected Victor Wembanyama with the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, he was highly anticipated.
The 20-year-old has done a fantastic job thus far of maturing into an NBA great, averaging 20.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and 3.4 blocks per game while shooting 33.3% from three-point range and 46.7% from the field.
The Draymond Green Show podcast, where Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green recently discussed Wembanyama, received a lot of social media views (source: The Volume).
Green: “Victor Wembanyama is most likely among the top 20 NBA players at the moment. His jump shot is really lovely, what with his skill set, length, and jump shot. Watch out in San Antonio with that staff and that youngster.
This is by no means a stray. I believe that Chet Holmgren is an excellent player, and I am aware that the two have been compared. However, I will admit that I believe Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren are separated by a certain amount. Simply said, Victor Wembanyama is unique. A child is unique. Exceptionally gifted, and in the next two years or so, he might win the league MVP award.”
The fact that Green received the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year Award adds even more significance to the commendation.
The future Hall of Famer is now shooting 42.3% from three-point range and 49.5% from the field, good for an average of 9.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game.
